Projects : Commerce & Office : Pilot Point, Belfast

Project Name: Pilot Point, Belfast
Category: Commerce & Office
Client: CUSP
Project Value: £2.1M
Date of Completion: 2007
Description:

Pilot Point is situated in the heart of Belfast’s historic commercial port, Clarendon Dock, which has been redeveloped over the past decade to provide a mix of new commercial and residential accommodation.

Pilot Point, a new four storey, brick built office development with an apartment on the top floor has been designed to relate to the quayside and the prominent corner situation. The Architects and Engineers worked closely with the Harbour Commissioners and with CUSP to ensure the dockland development objectives were achieved.

The curtain walling of the bay overlooking the dock is accentuated with exposed circular steel columns. Full height glazing is also used to wrap around the corner of the building and is continued up to the apartment forming a lantern light or beacon to the area. The glass walls of the building contrast with the solid plain areas of red clay facing brick and the exposed steel work, reminiscent of the Belfast’s commercial vernacular.
