Sustainable Design and Environmental
Management
The architectural practice of Kennedy FitzGerald Architects
LLP operates a Quality / Environmental System and is
registered to BS EN ISO 9001:2000 and ISO 14001:2004.
The practice prides itself on developing well-designed
buildings and strives to find solutions incorporating an
ecological ethos in consultation with clients. Kennedy
FitzGerald’s commitment to the end-user’s well being also
leads to research into the cost benefits which can accompany
the use of environmentally sustainable systems.
The aim of the practice’s environmental management process
is to evaluate the long-term consequences for the
environment both inside and outside the building.
Assessments of all major projects are carried out for
environmental impact using methods based on published data
from the Building Research Establishment.
At key stages the choice of materials and effects of the
building’s design are evaluated against recognised criteria,
and, where possible, alternatives considered. Scores from
the environmental assessments are collected for annual
comparison and consideration by the partners, with targets
being set on a yearly basis. To date, the practice has
succeeded in meeting and exceeding all targets set.
In addition, the practice’s direct impact on the
environment, i.e. energy and paper usage, is reassessed
annually in line with the Register of Aspects required by
the ISO 14001 procedures. |
